From the first time, we fell in love with its amazing natural beauty, the slowness of life here, the breathtaking sea and the rugged coastline. Gansbaai and surrounding areas have become become our annual escape from Europe’s dark winters and our hectic daily lives. Five or so years ago we were so convinced that we decided we wanted to retire here, or at least part of the year (we still love our home in Amsterdam!).

But it was during our last trip, in February 2014, that we got serious about looking. There was a lot on our wish list, and I wasn’t sure we were going to find something with everything we sought and within our price range.

We wanted ocean front without a road in front and a small pool, We wanted a house that was well maintained and modern inside while at the same time attractively designed on the outside. This limited us to just a hand full of houses in De Kelders, so we were delighted when a friend who lives near the house mentioned that the thatched house on Ingang Street was available. When we were finally able to get an appointment to see the house on the inside, it exceeded our expectations. The views wer stupendous and everything was built with quality in mind. We were sold from the moment we walked in the house. And the rest is history.
