We have been coming to the Overberg region for the past fifteen years.  From the first time, we fell in love with its amazing natural beauty, the slowness of life here, the warmth of the people, the breathtaking oceanfront and the rugged coastline. Gansbaai and surrounding areas became our annual escape from Europe’s dark winters and our hectic daily work lives. Five or so years ago we were so convinced that we decided we wanted to retire here, or at least part of the year (we still love our home in Amsterdam!).

 

But it was during our trip in February 2014, that we got serious about looking for an oceanfront property. There was a lot on our wish list, and I wasn’t sure we were going to find something with everything we sought and within our price range.

We wanted oceanfront without a road in front and a small pool, We wanted a house that was well maintained and modern inside while at the same time attractively designed with a unique character. We didn’t want the typical white-washed beach house.  We also wanted Northern exposure for lots of natural light and for beautiful sunsets over the ocean.

This limited us to just a hand full of houses in De Kelders, so we were delighted when a friend who lives near the house mentioned that the thatched house on Ingang Street was for sale.  When we were finally able to get an appointment to see the house on the inside, it exceeded our expectations. The views were stupendous and everything was built with quality in mind. We were sold from the moment we walked in the house. And the rest is history.
